No one had ever asked him to describe Abby to them before. It was a request that seemed strange to him. How did you describe the woman who had stolen your heart? How did you make sure you encompassed everything about her into a description that made sense to the person you were giving it to?
Stranger than the request, was the person who was making it. After all, he already knew Abby and in fact, had known her long before he had been lucky enough to meet her.
Eyeing the near empty bottle of Scotch the two of them had been drinking from was probably a factor in the request being made. Or maybe he just needed a reminder that someone other than himself thought of their lost friends on a daily basis.
Several times a day, in point of fact.
“Giving,” he finally said. “She’s so damn giving of herself to those that she cares about. It doesn’t matter to her if you deserve her caring or not. Unless you hurt someone she loves, she’ll always be there for you, no matter what the situation is. She’s fierce, but surprisingly fragile, as well. She does her damnedest to keep anyone from seeing that fragility, but it’s there.” He took a drink from his glass. “She’s beautiful – gorgeous – and not just on the outside, either. Her beauty goes so much deeper than that, straight to her soul. She’ll risk her life for creatures that can’t speak for themselves and she’ll always protect them – no matter where they’re from. She’s incredibly loyal. If you cause harm to someone she cares about, she’ll never forget it and one day she’ll get revenge when you least expect it. She never lets you get away with lying to her or brushing her off.”
“Quite maddening, really,” Lester finally responded, taking a drink from his glass. “But amazing, as well.”
“That she is,” Becker whispered. “That she is.”
