twilightbigbang. It will be completed some day. Eventually. Maybe.
Bella stared, frozen in shock, at the vampire making his way toward her. She had never expected to see him again -- where she was alone and vulnerable -- and her brain wasn't functioning properly as she faced him. She knew that if she tried to run, he'd be on her in an instant.
"I'm surprised they left you all alone and defenseless," Laurent said, making conversation. "I thought you were something of a pet of theirs. They certainly reacted passionately enough to protect you that day."
"Lie." The familiar voice urged her in her mind.
"They come and they go," Bella said, doing her best to lie, knowing that she really wasn't very good at it.
"They've been gone for some time," he disagreed, coming closer to her. "Their house smells empty, abandoned." He quirked his head at her. "But really, it's better that I'm the one to do this. Better that you stumbled across me and not across Victoria. You see, she is very put out with you and wants revenge on you in the worst possible way. Your Edward killed her James, you know. She has many painful plans for you." He reached out towards her. "Don't worry, little Bella. I promise to make it quick. You won't feel a thing."
Bella saw her death in his eyes, but for some reason, she couldn't make her feet move to run. As he reached for her and leaned down to bite her, she managed to push the air from her lungs in a high-pitched scream.
