Several people gaped as the usually impeccable eldest daughter of Dr. Carlisle Cullen walked into the emergency room carrying a body. The girl's eyes passed over everyone as she went to triage.

"I need to see my father," she demanded.

The nurse started to stutter and Rosalie glared at him. "This person in my arms is a family friend. I don't know how badly she is hurt, but I do know that she is losing a great deal of blood. Now, if you don't want to be responsible for her bleeding to death and having her family sue --"

"Rosalie." The voice was quiet, but there was the hint of a question beneath the word.

She turned and met Carlisle's eyes. She had known that he would hear her no matter where he was in the hospital. "It's Bella."

Carlisle's eyes widened slightly and turned on his heel to go back through the double doors into the emergency wing of the hospital. "Put her here," he directed Rosalie to the gurney that was standing there as he picked up a phone to talk to someone. "I'll take her into surgery." He looked at his daughter. "Where did you find her?"

"I went back to Forks to see if Edward being a bigger idiot than usual had endangered us even more. I caught the scent of blood near the house. There was a dead vampire where I found her, as well as the smell of dog."

Carlisle groaned, starting to get things prepped to take Bella into surgery and see if he could take care of the worst of the damages to her. "Are you going to wait or head home?"

Rosalie frowned, trying to decide the better course of action. If she went home, Edward would read her mind and would go off and do something stupid before he even found out if Bella was going to live or die. If she stayed here, there was the risk that some stupid human would provoke her. "I'll be nearby," she finally decided. "I'll call Emmett and he can come wait with me." She looked down at her nails. "Can you save her?"

The question coming from Rosalie surprised him. "I'll do my best," he promised quietly.

She gave a careless shrug and headed back through the doors. Once she made it outside, she vanished immediately into the cold forest surrounding the hospital. It was true that she had hunted before finding Bella's body, but carrying the bleeding all this way had stretched her self-control nearly to its breaking point. She needed to hunt, and then she needed to call her husband. She wasn't going to tell him why she was here until after he arrived because she didn't want to take the chance of Edward picking those thoughts out of his head.

It was going to be a very long night. She could tell already.

"Damn it, Bella. How in the hell did you manage to get yourself in the middle of a vampire and a werewolf?"

Rosalie had just flipped open her phone when her hearing detected the approach of more than one person. She knew that Carlisle wouldn't be out of surgery already, so she turned to confront them. Letting out a breath, she shook her head when she recognized the trio approaching her.

"I shouldn't be surprised," she said quietly, knowing that their ears would pick up her words.

"Alice saw you arrive here with Bella," Emmett said as they came to Rosalie's side. He put his arms around her and she leaned into him gratefully.

Jasper and Alice were quiet as they approached them and Jasper's eyes were full of both concern and curiosity. Rosalie couldn't help but feel irritated that her brother could read her so well. The truth of the matter was that she was confused by her troubled emotions over Bella and her injuries. When she had first decided to bring her here to Carlisle, she had told herself that if the human died after that, it would be none of her concern. After all, Edward being an idiot over Bella had caused the entire family to be uprooted and endangered. However, at some point during the journey, Rosalie had found herself emotionally attached to the idea of what could happen to the girl... and she did not want her to die.

She couldn't explain it, and in fact, she didn't understand it herself. However, the one clear thing in all of this was that if Bella Swan died from her injuries, it would hurt.

She wasn't used to being hurt by the actions or lives of people that she didn't know or particularly care for.

"I saw you bring Bella to Carlisle," Alice said in her soft voice. This time, though, it carried none of her usual cheerfulness. "But I didn't see what happened or what caused it."

"I didn't hurt her," Rosalie snapped. "I found her like this!"

Three pairs of eyes looked at her in shock.

"Rose --"

"I never said that you did, Rosalie," Alice frowned. "I know you wouldn't. What I said is that I couldn't see what happened to Bella before you found her."

The blond sighed and exited the comfort of her husband's arms to lean against the tree.

"I went back to Forks to check and see if Bella had told anyone about us," Rosalie admitted.

It was Jasper who responded. "Edward told us --"

"Edward is an idiot!" Rosalie's voice held anger. "It's because he's an idiot that we were forced to move and it was because he's a moron that I found Bella torn apart like she is. God! She's in emergency surgery with Carlisle right now and he doesn't know if even he can save her!" She ran a hand through her hair, glad that none of the others said anything. "I was near our house when I smelled blood. I went to check it out because if someone had done something to or in the house I knew that Esme would be devastated." She sighed. "When I got there, whatever had happened was over. That vampire from last year, Laurent, was there and he was torn in pieces. Bella was in the grass nearby and she was bleeding badly. I couldn't even start to count all of her wounds. She looked like she had been attacked by some kind of animal and there was the smell of dog everywhere. There was a werewolf somewhere nearby or had been nearby. I don't know if it was Laurent or the dog that attacked her. I picked her up and then carried her here to Carlisle. And now, Carlisle is in surgery with her and I don't know if even he can save her and I don't like how that makes me feel!"

Emmett approached her again and pulled her into his arms. "It's ok, Rose," he murmured.

"It's not ok, Emmett. If Bella dies it's going to hurt me and I don't understand why and I hate not understanding or being in control and now I hate that you guys know!" She lifted her head. "Jasper if you don't stop trying to calm me down, I'm going to hit you."

Jasper gave her a small smile. "Sorry, it's habit."

"I don't want to be calmed down right now."

Alice took a deep breath and then another. "So, you think that a vampire and a werewolf attacked Bella?"

"I don't know," Rosalie said. "I know that she smelled like both of them and would it really surprise any of us if she did find herself in the middle of a fight between a vampire and a werewolf? I mean, it's Bella!"

Emmett nodded. "If anyone could find themselves in a situation like that, it would be our Bella," he said in agreement.

To everyone's surprise, Rosalie didn't snap at him about the "Our Bella" comment. She just sighed and leaned against him, closing her eyes.

"Are we going to tell Edward?" Jasper's voice finally cut through the silence.
