Pairing/Characters: Abby Maitland
Rating/Category: PG
Summary: Abby had never really thought about the concept of mercy
Words: 300
Notes: This was written for challenge #018 -- Mercy at drabble365days
Abby had never really thought about the concept of mercy and if she had the right to decide if another person deserved it before all of this happened.
However, standing over the body of Helen Cutter, there was an instant when Abby thought that after everything she had done, the woman’s death had been way too fast. How could someone that had caused so much damage and destroyed so many lives be allowed to die with barely a sound or any real pain at all?
It wasn’t that she wanted people to suffer as a general rule, but Helen had done things that could never be repaired or forgiven. She had caused the deaths of good men like Stephen and cold-bloodedly murdered her own ex-husband. She’d allowed people to be torn to pieces in order to further her own agenda and then decided that she was going to go back in time and wipe out all of humanity.
It was because of Helen that Abby was trapped here in this place with no idea of when the next anomaly might open so that she could get back home. It was because of Helen that she had left Danny and Connor behind and didn’t know if they were all right or if they had managed to get to safety after Danny sent her ahead of them.
Yet, with all of the months and years that they had been tormented by her and after everything they had lost because of her, she was so quickly destroyed herself.
Abby wasn’t sure if she thought that Helen deserved such a merciful ending where she wasn’t in pain for very long and she wasn’t frightened.
Abby couldn’t see why Helen deserved mercy when she had never given any in the time she knew of her.
