Gwynn had been surprised when Phillip and her father wanted her to invite Conner home for part of the holiday celebrations. She had been on her guard from the moment they arrived, waiting for one of her family members to do something that she would have to hurt them for.
Really, she knew the men in her family just too well.
When Robin had decided to pull Conner aside, Gwynn had started to follow, until her father had shaken his head. "This is man talk, Gwynn. I promise, I won't bruise him... even if he is soft."
She had narrowed her eyes at her father, but had stayed behind as requested. Although others tried to get her attention, she kept her eyes focused on the door her father and boyfriend had disappeared through.
When they came back to the gathering, Gwynn had been taken aback at his appearance. Conner... looked... well... she decided she rather liked him in the leather clothing of her homeland. She wondered how long her family had been planning this -- and what Conner thought about it all. Her father and Will had also apparently fitted him with a sword as he kept playing with it at his side.
She thought that she couldn't love her family more for trying to make Conner feel at home, but when Phillip knighted him in front of everyone and declared him the champion of the King's Champion (that being her of course), Gwynn felt the sting of tears in her eyes.
Conner, while looking a bit stunned about the proceedings, had a goofy grin on his face as he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her.
